About Cataract Surgery

A cataract is your own natural lens in the eye becoming cloudy (generally due to increasing wisdom and maturity!). To improve your vision, your doctor can remove the cataract and insert a new, clear, plastic lens in its place which lasts for the rest of your life.

The excellent news is cataracts don’t return and this new lens implant can be targeted for your visual needs; this can be a once-in-a-lifetime investment in your eyes to improve your quality of life for the long term, for life expectancy at age 65 in Oregon is 18-23 years. Our doctors will discuss your lifestyle/hobbies/activities/work, examine your eye, review your eye’s measurements (e.g., scans of the cornea and retina) and make a recommendation as to what lens would best be suited for you. We believe in personalized eye care and customizing the surgical plan for each individual.

Our doctors use the ZiemerZ8 femtosecond laser for use in treating patients with cataracts interested in laser cataract surgery. This device can precisely correct astigmatism at time of cataract surgery.

We are proud to be offering exams and screenings every Friday at New Visions Eye Care located at 371 NE Garden Valley Blvd, in Roseburg. We also offer necessary surgical procedures at the Vision Surgery Laser Center at 2435 NW Kline St.

Premium Lenses

We offer premium Intra-Ocular Lenses that can help reduce or eliminate your dependency on glasses and contacts.

The design of the accommodative lens allows certain eye muscles to move the IOL forward and backward, changing the focus much as it would with a natural lens, allowing near and distance vision. The ability to read and perform other tasks without glasses varies from person to person but is generally best when multifocal or accommodative IOLs are placed in both eyes.

Available Advanced Lens Implants:

  • Panoptix
  • Vivity
  • Synergy
  • Eyhance toric
  • Envista toric

Our doctors will evaluate your eyes and discuss with you your activities, goals, and visual needs to reach a decision with you on what the best lens choice for your eyes is.

About Dr. Mando

Dr. Joseph Mando obtained his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and continued with a residency at the University of Kentucky and then a Fellowship at The University of Texas Southwestern.

I would say that I was always interested in science and found biology incredibly intriguing so I wanted to establish a career in that realm. As a senior in high school, I was able to study a human cadaver and I became pretty fascinated with the idea of learning more about the human body at that time.

From very early on in his life he was able to learn and appreciate what it is to use one’s own hands and mind to help and heal and we are incredibly proud to have him as part of the PCVI Family!
