Are LASIK and Cataract Surgery The Same?

LASIK is very different than cataract surgery. LASIK only works on the cornea (the outer window of the eye) to reshape it.  Cataract surgery removes the cloudy lens inside the eye so it is more invasive

Is LASIK Surgery Safe?

Of all the procedures that we do in ophthalmology and medicine in general, LASIK, when performed in patients who are good candidates, is perhaps the safest and most effective, as it is has to be, given that we are working on healthy eyes. However, No procedure is zero risk, and there are low rates of potential complications.

Are LASIK Touch ups Safe?

LASIK touch-ups are generally easy to perform up to 3 years after the original procedure; generally the need for a touch-up should be known within the first 2-3 months of the procedure. After 3 years, lifting the flap becomes a bit harder to perform.  As with any procedure, there is always some risk of infection, scarring, surface cells getting under the flap, etc. All of those are rare and can be treated if they occur.

What are some complications of LASIK?

Complications of LASIK are rare but include infection, inflammation, extended healing time, dryness, flap dislodgment from rubbing requiring repositioning.
