There are many options for you to consider when having cataract surgery. Our surgeons at PCVI will help you determine which options best fit you and your lifestyle.
Our Role
We are proud to partner with our many Optometry friends in the greater Eugene, Oregon community and beyond. Our surgical specialists work closely with your primary eye care provider to ensure you receive the highest levels of care. From your initial consultation to post-operative care, Pacific ClearVision Institute will make sure you are well cared for.
Treatments
Cataracts
At Pacific ClearVision Institute, we understand how cataracts can gradually cloud your vision and impact daily activities like driving, reading, and enjoying time with loved ones. For most people, cataracts develop naturally with age, causing cloudy vision, light sensitivity, and difficulty seeing at night. The good news is that cataract surgery is one of the most common and successful treatments available, helping restore clear, brilliant vision.
Our cataract removal process uses advanced microsurgery that takes approximately 10 minutes and requires no needles, stitches, or patches. We remove the clouded lens through a tiny incision and replace it with a clear artificial lens customized to your vision needs. Our experienced eye doctor will work with you to determine the best treatment approach, and many patients notice improved vision within hours of their procedure.
LASIK
If you’re tired of relying on glasses or contacts, LASIK offers a safe and effective solution for correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Our experienced surgeons have performed over 20,000 procedures, using advanced laser technology to reshape your cornea and improve your vision. The laser portion takes less than two minutes per eye, and most patients notice significantly clearer vision within just 24 hours.
We begin with a comprehensive evaluation to assess your corneal health, thickness, and overall eye structure using state-of-the-art imaging technology. Our eye doctor will discuss your visual goals and determine if you’re a candidate for the procedure. At Pacific ClearVision Institute, we work closely with your primary eye care provider throughout the entire process to ensure optimal results and personalized care tailored to your lifestyle.
Cross-Linking
Corneal cross-linking is a minimally invasive procedure designed to strengthen weak or thinning corneas caused by keratoconus and other corneal conditions. This innovative treatment helps stop disease progression and significantly reduces the risk of needing a future cornea transplant. We use liquid riboflavin (vitamin B2) combined with controlled ultraviolet light to reinforce the corneal structure and preserve your vision.
Our eye doctor performs this outpatient procedure at Pacific ClearVision Institute, allowing you to return home the same day with minimal disruption to your daily routine. The treatment works by creating new bonds within the corneal tissue, enhancing its stability and strength. We’ll carefully evaluate your corneal health and discuss whether cross-linking is the right solution to protect your eyes and maintain your quality of life.
LASIK Alternatives
Not everyone is a candidate for traditional LASIK surgery, which is why we offer several proven alternatives to help you achieve clearer vision. At Pacific ClearVision Institute, our eye doctor will evaluate your unique corneal structure, refractive error, and lifestyle needs to recommend the best procedure for you. Options include PRK for patients with thinner corneas, SMILE for a minimally invasive flapless approach, ICL for high myopia, and Custom Lens Replacement for age-related vision changes.
Each alternative offers distinct advantages tailored to specific conditions and goals. PRK reshapes the corneal surface without creating a flap, while SMILE uses a tiny incision to correct nearsightedness with enhanced corneal stability. ICL involves placing a biocompatible lens inside the eye for reversible vision correction, and Custom Lens Replacement addresses presbyopia by replacing your natural lens with an advanced artificial lens that can restore both distance and near vision.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness and occurs when progressive damage to the optic nerve threatens your vision, often due to increased pressure inside the eye. Early detection through regular monitoring every 4-6 months is essential for successful management of this chronic condition. We offer multiple treatment options, including eyedrops, laser procedures like D-SLT and G6, medication implants such as Durysta and iDose, and surgical interventions when needed.
Our eye doctor will create a personalized treatment plan based on the type and severity of your glaucoma. Pacific ClearVision Institute provides cutting-edge solutions, including direct selective laser trabeculoplasty, which takes less than a minute with just numbing drops and allows you to resume activities immediately. For longer-lasting results, we also offer innovative implants like iDose that deliver medication continuously for up to three years, eliminating the hassle of daily eyedrops while effectively controlling eye pressure.
Dry Eye
Dry eye occurs when your tear ducts don’t produce enough natural tears or create abnormal tears that fail to properly lubricate your eyes. This uncomfortable condition can cause scratching sensations, burning, and irritation, often triggered by extended screen time, contact lens wear, aging, hormonal changes, or underlying conditions like rosacea and Sjogren’s syndrome. Our eye doctor will identify the root cause of your symptoms and develop a customized treatment plan to restore comfort and eye health.
We offer comprehensive solutions at Pacific ClearVision Institute, ranging from preservative-free artificial tears and nutritional supplements like Hydroeye to advanced therapies such as LipiFlow thermal pulsation treatment and IPL low-level light therapy. Our Eye Wellness Center provides convenient access to specialized products, including Optase Advanced drops, Regener-eyes amniotic liquid, and nighttime ointments. For patients with chronic dry eye, we also perform Blephex eyelid exfoliation to improve tear flow and address underlying inflammation effectively.

FAQs
Where are your offices located, and what areas do you serve?
Our flagship facility at 360 South Garden Way in Eugene features comprehensive diagnostic equipment and the Pacific Surgery Center. Additional offices in Cottage Grove and Oakridge extend access beyond Eugene. Patients travel from Springfield, Corvallis, Salem, Bend, and even California, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Utah for our specialized capabilities that remain unavailable closer to home.
What types of vision problems can you treat?
We address the full spectrum of ocular disease and vision challenges. Common refractive errors get corrected through glasses, routine contact lens prescriptions, or LASIK and SMILE procedures. Our eye doctor handles cataract surgery, glaucoma management, macular degeneration treatment, diabetic retinopathy care, corneal transplants, dry eye disease therapy, and eyelid and eyebrow surgeries for medical and cosmetic concerns.
How does your practice stay current with advances in eye care?
Our eye doctors maintain research appointments at the University of Oregon Knight Campus and participate in clinical trials for promising treatments. We attend specialized conferences and maintain collaborative relationships with academic medical centers nationwide. Equipment investments follow evidence—we adopt new medical technology only when it demonstrably improves outcomes, ensuring patients benefit from proven innovations without exposure to passing trends.
What happens during a comprehensive eye exam at your practice?
Your evaluation encompasses a detailed assessment of how your eyes function individually and together. We measure visual acuity, evaluate peripheral vision, and examine internal structures, including the retina and optic nerve. Specialized imaging, like optical coherence tomography, detects glaucoma and macular degeneration before symptoms appear. Our eye doctors explain findings conversationally and welcome questions. Most exams require 45-60 minutes.
Can you help if I've been told I'm not a candidate for vision correction?
Our access to every FDA-approved LASIK alternative means we frequently find solutions for patients told elsewhere that nothing could help. Thin corneas unsuitable for traditional LASIK may work perfectly for PRK or implantable collamer lens procedures. Keratoconus patients benefit from corneal crosslinking, Intacs, or specialty contact lens designs. Schedule a consultation with our eye doctor to discuss your specific circumstances—even if previous providers suggested you’re out of options.
