What drew you to medicine?
I grew up going to an ophthalmologist’s office for my own eyes, and was always generally interested in how they worked. I was always trying to research and learn more about it, and it turned into a passion of mine.
What drew you to your specialty?
I love the combination of being able to learn about the science behind eyecare, while also being able to help people find glasses that work great visually and help them to feel confident.
What about eye care is it that intrigues you?
Not only am I intrigued by how eyes, lenses, and everything in between works, I appreciate that it is something that has a huge impact on people’s lives, and it feels very special to be a part of that.
What are some things you are most proud of in your profession?
I am incredibly proud of everything I do. It is extremely rewarding to be able to offer my knowledge to patients. Choosing a pair of glasses can be a daunting thing, especially when there are so many factors to consider, and I love being able to make that decision easier on the patient.
What are some of your greatest achievements, both professionally and personally?
My job is made up of what feels like a million little achievements made every day. Opticianry involves a great deal of problem solving in all areas, and nothing is better that being able to solve an issue that is negatively impacting a patient.
How have you (and do you continue to) adapt to the ever changing world of eye care?
I am endlessly learning more about the optical world, whether it is by researching or by communicating with my peers. Lens technology has come a long way, and I want to make sure I always have the best options and information available to my patients.
