Nearly 90 percent of Americans who have had vision correction surgery recommend it to others
August 25, 2008
One way to measure patient satisfaction with vision correction surgery is to find out how many people who have had the procedure recommend it to others afterward.
According to data from the Jobson/VCA VisionWatch survey of American consumers for the 6-month period ending March 2008, nearly 90 percent of those who have undergone LASIK surgery or some other vision correction procedure have recommended it to others.
VisionWatch survey results
The survey found that 86.3 percent of those who had undergone LASIK, PRK, LASEK or other types of vision correction surgery later recommended it to at least one other person. And nearly one-quarter of them recommended vision correction surgery to more than 10 people.
Specifically, the survey found that among those who had previously undergone vision correction surgery:
26.6% later recommended it to 1 to 4 people.
34.9% recommended it to 5 to 10 people.
24.8% recommended it to more than 10 people.
Only 13.6 percent of Americans who have had vision correction surgery did not recommend it to others, according to the survey.
The results of this portion of the VisionWatch survey were published in the August 18, 2008 issue of Vision Monday, an optical trade magazine.
